A Ladies' Guide to Royal Ascot Style

Is there a more stylish summer event than Royal Ascot? It would be hard to argue. Glamour, excitement and revelry make for a heady concoction alongside world-class racing. This year will be the first presided over by the newly crowned King Charles, and so promises to add something unique to an already magical event.

One special service that Favourbrook has long adopted is that we keep a note of what store clients are wearing to the various Ascot days so as to minimise the risk of someone else showing up in the same outfit! So if you decide to make a purchase online, please feel free to call our team to check that no one else intends to wear it on the same day!

Dressing for Royal Ascot requires personality and sophistication, all within the remit of the style guide, of course. The rules for the Royal Enclosure are as follows:

Dresses, skirts and tops

Dresses and skirts should be of modest length defined as falling just above the knee or longer. Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or greater. Strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck and spaghetti straps are not permitted. Dresses and tops with sheer straps and sleeves are also not permitted.

Jackets and pashminas may be worn. Tops and dresses underneath should still comply with the Royal Enclosure Dress Code. Midriffs must be covered.

Trouser Suits & Jumpsuits

Trouser suits are welcome. They should be of full-length to the ankle and of matching material and colour. Jumpsuits are welcome. They should fall below the knee, with regulations matching that for dresses.

Hats should be worn; however, a headpiece which has a solid base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat. Fascinators are not permitted.

Got all that?! In addition to the guidance above, fancy dress, novelty and branded or promotional clothing is not permitted on site. Thankfully, we've curated our favourite pieces from Favourbrook's Spring/Summer 23 collection that we feel are perfect for attending Royal Ascot this year - jackets and dresses that embrace the sense of occasion by using luxurious fabrics and timeless silhouettes.

Linen is a wonderful fabric for Royal Ascot (and no, you needn't worry about creasing because we use crease-resist linen in many of our coat and dress styles) being lightweight, breathable and with a subtle textural quality. It's a fabulous fabric for elegant summer coats, for all of those reasons.

Where dresses are concerned, we have a beautiful collection of both silk and crease resist linen styles that are confidently feminine and very chic. From vibrant floral styles to more understated options, our dresses come in a number of different silhouettes to suit every type of figure.

The Serena dress, for example, is a classic scoop neck dress featuring a full circle skirt, with a satin belt and three quarter length sleeves, and is finished with a concealed zip fastening. Our Grace Circle dress, pictured above is a bold yet feminine style, crafted from 100% luxurious Italian silk satin. It features a wrapped pleated neckline with a fitted waist and full circle skirt for plenty of dynamic movement. With an Italian print of a beautiful floral motif that pops out of an lemon yellow canvas, this dress is perfect for a day at Royal Ascot.

It's most important that you feel confident and assured in your look, which is why we would always recommend coming into the store on Pall Mall and getting the benefit of Store Manager Theresa's advice. She has so much experience dressing customers for Royal Ascot, that you will be in very safe hands, indeed.
