The Four Horsemen - Ed Walker

The Four Horsemen - Ed Walker

With Royal Ascot galloping round the bend, we were honoured to welcome into our Pall Mall store four gents at the top of the horse racing game. First up, meet Ed Walker, trainer at Ed Walker Racing in Upper Lambourne. Ed embodies a blend of tenacity, expertise, and passion that has elevated him to the forefront of British racing. Born in 1983 and raised near Kingsclere, Walker’s love for horses was ignited by his equestrian mother and racing-enthusiast father. His journey began far from the gallops, honing his craft under luminaries like Roger Charlton and Luca Cumani, where he served as assistant trainer for four years, absorbing the nuances of equine excellence.

In 2010, Walker struck out on his own, launching his training career from a modest 24-box yard in Newmarket. His first runner, Riggins, clinched a Listed victory, setting the tone for a career marked by ambition and resilience. Despite relocating five times in six years, Walker’s focus never wavered. In 2016, he found a permanent home at Kingsdown Stables in Upper Lambourn, a historic hub of racing. Here, his string grew to over 100 horses, with champions like Starman, who claimed the 2021 July Cup, and Dreamloper, victor of the 2022 Prix d’Ispahan, securing his first Group 1 triumphs.

Walker’s hands-on approach - rooted in understanding each horse, owner, and staff member - defines his success. His stable has produced over 400 winners, including global contenders like Stormy Antarctic. With Kingsdown as his base, Ed continues to shape racing’s future, driven by a lifelong passion and an unwavering pursuit of perfection.
