The onset of autumn promises the prospect of layered style, but even more than that it means velvet season is here at Favourbrook. Velvet's origins reach back to ancient times, with pile-woven fabrics appearing around 2000 BC in Egypt and China, using silk for intricate textures. It was popularized in Europe from the 14th century onward, arriving via Silk Road trade and refined by Ottoman and Italian artisans. In Italy, during the Renaissance, weavers in regions like Lucca and Genoa elevated velvet to a status symbol, adorning royalty and the elite with its lavish sheen, symbolising femininity and refinement.
