The Autumn/Winter ’26 Menswear Collection: Dressed For The Occasion

There are fewer and fewer moments in modern life when one is expected to dress for dinner. The office has relaxed. Restaurants have relaxed. Even weddings, once dependable bastions of sartorial instruction, now arrive with dress codes vague enough to require a small committee. But there is still something immensely satisfying about making an effort as daylight fades in a place where the ritual of drinks before dinner remains one of civilisation’s finer achievements.

For Autumn/Winter ’26, Favourbrook heads to Neston Park in Wiltshire: a house of sweeping staircases, long views and rooms that come alive by candlelight. Viewers of Rivals may recognise it as The Falconry, the home of Tony and Monica Baddingham - a suitably glamorous setting for a collection that treats formal dressing not as an obligation, but as an invitation to enjoy oneself.

The season is built around the jacket. This is the moment when a well-chosen layer can establish the entire mood of an outfit, whether you are heading to a black-tie dinner, a winter wedding or the sort of country-house weekend that begins with one drink before dinner and ends with a debate nobody quite remembers starting.

A classic dinner jacket remains the foundation. In black or midnight blue, with a silk-faced peak lapel or shawl collar, it has an authority that is hard to improve upon. The silhouette is formal, certainly, but never stiff: a good dinner jacket gives the wearer a sense of occasion without requiring him to behave as though he has swallowed the invitation whole. Velvet takes a leading role this season. It is a fabric made for after dark: its dense pile absorbs light in one moment and reflects it in the next, changing character as the evening unfolds.
