Short and sweet - cropped jackets for summer

Short and sweet - cropped jackets for summer

We've long been recognised for the svelte silhouettes of our long coats - the likes of the Belgravia, the Westminster and the Eton - and while they create a lovely long-line shape whatever the season, the summer months bring into play the shorter, cropped jacket. Fitted at the waist and finished on the hips, the cropped jacket really comes into its own round about now as the weather affords us a more playful wardrobe. What its long-line sister boasts in elegance and sophistication, the cropped jacket is effortlessly feminine thanks to that fitted waist, yet still retains a degree of sharp formality from the tailored silhouette.

One of the things we love most about the shape is its versatility, able to be worn with a variety of other pieces in your wardrobe. Need a structured throw-over for your boho summer dress? That'll be the cropped jacket. Looking for something to balance the playful pleated skirt? There's a cropped jacket for that. Trying to pair your tailored cigarette pants with a feminine jacket? You get the gist.

This season, we've created a number of different styles to give your wardrobe myriad new options.

The Cassie jacket is one of our favourite short styles and is so dextrous with summer wardrobes. Cinched at waist, it features a delicate back bow detail belt, three-quarter length sleeves and fabric covered buttons. We've crafted it in a number of different fabrics and it can be worn with a matching skirt for a professional look or as a separate jacket for a smart casual style.

The Cassie jacket above has, for example, been cut in a stunning peplum fabric with a stand-up collar and features the classic back bow detail, along with fabric covered buttons with rouleaux finishing. Alternatively, our Trafalgar jacket is made in London from French embroidered linen and can be dressed up or worn with jeans. Details include beautiful piping and a double button fastening, replete with a working button cuff.

The Kennedy jacket is a cropped box fit style with a flattering scoop neck, concealed fabric-covered buttons and three-quarter length frill sleeves that are a perfect complement to breezy summer dresses. Finally, the Davina jacket is perhaps the most versatile of all since we are able to make it in just about any fabric you so wish! This season, our off-the-peg styles include the embroidered silk organza option pictured above, together with a stunning ivory option and a vibrant pink reverse crinkle linen style, all of which make for fantastic layers with everything from pencil skirts and cigarette pants to floaty dresses and pantaloons.
