In the first of our 'Friends of Favourbrook' series, we met with Ryan Thompson, a writer, editor and journalist for over two decades, and who has penned for the likes of the Financial Times, Sunday Times Style, The Rake, and many others. He's also the guy behind our weekly journals, and he scrubs up pretty well too. We caught up with him to talk party style at New Year and what he's looking forward to in 2025.
So Ryan, what are you going to be doing, and more importantly, wearing for New Year's Eve?
Well the boring answer is that this year, it's going to be a pretty sedate one with my children, but since the first year of covid, we've made it an annual tradition to get dressed up for New Year's Eve if we're staying in. They are 16 and 12 now so they're just starting to appreciate style and develop their own tastes which is really fun to watch evolve. Apparently, Favourbrook's new Tommy wide-leg dress trousers which I'm wearing in these pictures are 'sick'. I love wearing classic black tie but don't get the opportunity to rock it too often. I love the silhouette of the Tommy tuxedo - it feels really modern - and the frill shirt is just the right amount of outrageous! Last year, we had an absolute NYE blowout with friends in Deal. At 45 years old, that is one hangover I will not miss this year.
What are you most looking forward to in 2025?
It's going to be a significant year as my wife and I are expecting a baby in June, and my daughter is doing her GCSEs so I'm looking forward to the summer with a lot of nervous excitement! Hopefully every goes well on both fronts!
How do you see fashion trends evolving next year?
I'm often asked about trends, and a few years ago I probably would have been able to give you a fairly concise answer about them, but these days I feel that stylish people dress with a lot more individuality, regardless of the trends du jour. Perhaps the internet has democratised fashion, surfacing a million and one different ways to style clothes? Either way, the most stylish people I know all have their own unique application of colours, patterns, and shapes, mixing contemporary with vintage, or classic with cool. As much as I love winter layering, I'm very much a summer person, so I'm looking forward to seeing Favourbrook's new linen tailoring collection in the New Year. I've got my eyes on a dusty pink suit that your customers are going to love.
