How to Style the Summer Waistcoat Trend

How to Style the Summer Waistcoat Trend

Femininity comes in many guises. Take the suit, historically male, but now an intrinsic part of a feminine wardrobe. Moreover, we have completely appropriated tailoring, evolving it for the female figure, so much so, that it forms an intrinsic part of just about every major runway show in Paris and Milan, season after season. We love borrowing from the boys, whether it's simple cotton shirt, or a preppy sweater, and let's face it, they look better on us. But one garment that is rarely pinched is the waistcoat, simply because our other halves have pigeon-holed this delightful piece of clothing as something that can only be worn with formalwear or suiting. Maybe they are right? But that rule, luckily, doesn't apply to us.

One only has to cast one's mind back to 2005 to recall a certain Kate Moss at Glastonbury wearing a waistcoat with hot pants and wellies to understand the rebellious impact of the garment, and just how versatile it can be in a woman's wardrobe. Miss Moss is a big fan of the waistcoat, having been spotted in many since then, pairing slinky black styles with semi-opaque linen shirts and shorts. Last year, the female waistcoat was a hit on the runways of Dior, Chanel, Fendi and Michael Kors to name a few, often one part of a two piece trouser suit.

What's great about the waistcoat is the angular shape it offers, neatly breaking up a suit, or allowing one to bare arms in a chic evening look with black culottes or svetle cigarette pants. This season at Favourbrook we have created a number of stunning styles that can instantly elevate a sophisticated evening look or can just as easily be part of an elegant casualwear ensemble for the day.

Our single-breasted black gold bees waistcoat is constructed from a beautifully soft silk jacquard woven in England especially for Favourbrook. It's sure to turn heads as a standalone eveningwear piece layered with a black blazer or lounge jacket, and cigarette pants. Or how about a double-breasted style in rich cotton velvet? Cut in both navy and aubergine options, this version is perfectly fitted for a very flattering silhouette.

While velvet styles might be perfect for eveningwear, we've also created a number of new designs that are more suited to summer daywear. Cut from a beautifully lightweight linen cloth, these waistcoats are inspired by the British garden, featuring stunning floral elements in vibrant tones and patterns.

The double-breasted styles come with a sweeping shawl lapel, while the single-breasted styles affect a low v-cut finish, both neatly tapered at the waist for a flattering fit. What we love about them is their versatility - one can pair them with loose linen trousers, fitted jeans, or smart tailored pants for an elevated summer look.
