The Ladies
Somewhere in an attic in Sun Valley is an ageing portrait of Demi Moore - that can be the only explanation (well, ok, not the only explanation) for how the 62-year-old actress is still looking so good. Nominated for Best Actress for her performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance, Moore stepped onto the red carpet in a beautiful sparkling metallic gown by Armani Privé.

The silver and gold beaded dress featured a plunging neckline, spaghetti straps, and delicate ruching at the hips that accentuated her waist. The metallic trend was quite a popular one at this year's Oscars, with Halle Berry following on the silvery heels of Moore with a dazzling mirror ball of a look by Christian Siriano.

Michelle Yeoh never fails to find herself on the best-dressed lists, and at this year's awards it was a stunning royal blue Balenciaga gown that got her there. The wrapped style featured a significant train which only added to the actresses poise on the red carpet.

Monica Barbaro's pink pleated creation was one of our favourites - just the righty balance of cutesy and sophisticated, while really punching big with the big silhouette and the contrast jewelled bra. While colour is a sure-fire way to get heads turning, Margaret Qualley proved that a great black dress - in this case a floor-length strapless number by Chanel.

The Gents
It was great to see a number of gents opting for classic black tie at this Oscars ceremony, rather than trying to win column inches by going for the try-hard option of dressing in something wacky. One trend that did seem to emerge was the all-black look, that is, a black silk jacket, black trousers, black bow tie, and crucially, a black shirt. Both Samuel L Jackson and Kieran Culkin opted for this look, with the latter wearing a very nice shawl lapel tuxedo which he embellished with a lapel pin, another trend which has been very popular in recent years.

Another highlight was Brit Andrew Garfield's caramel brown dinner suit, which was exceptional. It's rare that you see such a colour on the red carpet, but it worked a treat. Garfield went for a completely tonal look, pairing the shawl lapel suit with a similarly brown silk shirt, all by Gucci. The peep of a Jaeger-Le Coultre watch was a nice touch, too.

Adrien Brody finished the night with his second award for Best Actor, and he could also right claim the award for Best Dressed, thanks to a stunning Giorgio Armani dinner suit. Sometimes classic is best. Brody's tux was immaculate, beautifully cut with peak lapels. The bow tie almost looks too perfect to have been hand-tied however!
Until next year!
