'The blues'. What do those two words make you think of? Monday mornings? Soulfully sad songs about unrequited love and hardships? Or cornflower summer skies, Mediterranean lagoons, Orthodox Greek church domes? At Favourbrook, our colour palette is always positive and uplifting, especially when it comes to the blues! Blue is such a diverse tone, and in the summer it takes on a fresh and graceful appeal, from the pale watercolour tones to the much punchier cornflower and royal blue hues.
It's true that different tones have different emotional connotations, but when it comes to clothing, we think blue hues can be altogether uplifting rather than morose. There is something intrinsically pure about many of the lighter tones as art history has proven, with the Virgin Mary more often than not depicted wearing azure cloth. At the other end of the palette, navy can be wonderfully deep, elegant and smart, leaning on a long history of military tradition.

For a more muted approach to this versatile colour, our Carnaby coat in Marcia silk satin combines just the slightest hint of an inky pale blue with grey to create an understated backdrop for a vibrant green and white volley of flowers with blue accents. Blue also plays a significant part in our seasonal dresses, with navy being especially bold for Autumn. We've naturally chosen only the finest fabrics to create our dress collection, including some stunning silks, most notably silk Shantung and silk Georgette. Shantung, which we wrote about here, is the gold standard of silk, featuring a unique slubby texture that gives it a much more interesting finish than typical smooth silk. Georgette, on the other hand, is more similar to chiffon in texture, with a crisp lightweight handle and a playful bounce to it.
