Noirish Delight

Noirish Delight

As much as we love colours and pattern here at Favourbrook, sometimes the brightest idea is the darkest tone... black. Chic, sophisticated, flattering and versatile, the colour black is so much more than the little black dress, especially when one introduces fabrics such as velvet and silk. Black has nuances that we rarely think about but in the right light with the right fabric, black can really come alive.

That it's the uniform of memorials doesn't do it a service, because there is little to mourn about a chic black outfit. It can look powerful, sexy, and elegant all at once don't need to tell you that it is also the most flattering colour, helping to create a more svelte and statuesque physique.

Over time, there have been any number of iconic looks in head-to-toe black. Think of the iconic silent film star Louise Brooks shot by Eugene Robert Richee, whose all-black look was juxtaposed beautifully with a long single strand of pearls; or Audrey Hepburn in her LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany's or her all-black beatnik dance costume in Funny Face? Many a stylish women has made black their fashionable uniform and why not? It certainly makes getting dressed in the morning that much simpler!

As a pragmatic choice, black is peerless, being able to be worn with any other colour. It provides the perfect neutral canvas with which to contrast bright tones such as orange, red and cream, but at the same time it brings out the very best of similarly dark hues such as burgundy, charcoal, dark green and navy. Contrasted with white, it provides a dynamic, eye-catching look that anyone who has ever owned a black houndstooth jacket will testify.

This season at Favourbrook, we have a number of black items that will elegant update your monochrome looks and provide endless styling options for the rest of your wardrobe. Our Serena Circle dress and Jemima dress are both stunning iterations of the LBD, crafted in plain georgette silk.

If you want to introduce a monochrome pattern into your noir options, then our Westminster coat in Thetford silk velvet is ideal, since it features a subtle tonal floral motif that breaks up an all-black look with delicate creativity. For those who prefer a shorter, more fitted jacket, then the Cassie style is an excellent option. Casually elegant and endlessly versatile, it comes in a sand-washed velvet with a cinched-in waist and features a back bow detail belt, three-quarter length sleeves, and fabric-covered buttons - a perfect and easy-to-wear addition to your noirish wardrobe.
