Party Season Primer: Winter Opulence

Party Season Primer: Winter Opulence

What was an autumnal trundle through October suddenly gathers pace in November as the social run-in to year end becomes a frenzy of parties and events.  From formal events to kitchen discos, there's fun everywhere you look, and that means a plethora of opportunities to get dressed up and look glamorous. So we've put together a cheat sheet of sorts for those looking to burn the candle at both ends!

For the men, black tie needn’t mean buttoned-up. At Favourbrook, we take the bones of tradition and loosen the corset. So take the fundaments of black tie tailoring, but give them a cheeky twist in the shape of printed silk dinner jackets, or our dashing velvet creations. You can swap the rigid marcella shirt for a softer, less formal cotton version, worn with a hand-tied bow tie left deliberately askew or ditch the neck furniture altogether and go with an open collar if the occasion allows it. Black tailored trousers with a subtle satin stripe keep the silhouette sharp, but switch out the plain black Oxfords for loafers to signal you’re here to enjoy yourself.

For smart house parties or for propping up the bar at the The Red Room in The Connaught, ditch the full suit entirely. A single-breasted velvet blazer in claret or racing green becomes your hero piece. Layer it over a fine-gauge black roll-neck and slim charcoal trousers. The roll-neck replaces the shirt and tie, lending warmth and a louche, post-prandial nonchalance. Slip a silk pocket square into the breast pocket - folded once, no fuss - and let the texture do the talking. This is black tie reimagined for the man who arrives fashionably late and leaves at dawn.

Womenswear: Glamour with a Playful Pulse

Glamour, sophistication, and just a pinch of hedonism are all the ingredients you need for a great party look, served with a twist. You're looking for statement looks that etch themselves in people's memories, whether you're going for a nightcap at Annabel's, or causing mischief at Scarfes in The Bloomsbury.

Favourbrook’s short, sexy jackets are your passport to effortless cool. Think our Chiswick Jacket Black Clyde Silk Velvet paired with black palazzo pants for a darkly seductive look with a nod to Parisian chic; or our Lounge jacket in black, striated with veins of cobalt blue with a soft shawl lapel; or our Library jacket, sleek, modern, and sharp. Throw one over a slinky silk slip top and tailored trousers. Feeling more playful? Nothing some party more than a pair of pyjamas! Our silk Camden PJs will jolt anyone from a slumber! Wear them with an altitudinous pair of heels and a bold clutch for maximum effect.

For longer evenings that drift from dinner to dancing, the silk Carnaby coat is your secret weapon. Coming in bold tones to make people stare, it can be worn open over tailored cigarette pants and a lace-trimmed camisole. The Oxford dress is a similarly bold patterned style with volume and movement, but with a belted jacket silhouette, ideal for throwing shapes on the dancefloor.
