Rule with a velvet coat

Rule with a velvet coat

When the weather draws in and the mercury drops, one must resign oneself to putting away the delicate cotton and linen jackets and blousons and instead opting for garments that will offer a little more in the way of protection from the elements without compromising an iota of style. One of the first fabrics we go to this time of year is velvet because it's rich, reassuringly dense, wonderfully tactile and comes alive in the (admittedly waning) sunlight. The fabric gets its softness from the way it is woven, typically on a special loom that weaves two thicknesses of a tufted material at the same time. We prefer to use "silk velvet" in our designs as it creates a beautifully soft handle. It's actually a combination of silk and rayon. Today it's rare to find a truly silk velvet, and if you do, your bank balance will know about it.

This season, we have crafted some stunning coats and jackets in silk velvet and also in cotton velvet, offering a sense of luxuriousness that is both comfortable and easy to wear. Indeed, one of the best things about our velvet coats other than how good they look and how great they feel on, is how easily they can be paired with everything from maxi dresses and silk shifts for an elegant evening occasion to a pair of jeans for a drive to the shops! From voluminous swing coats to our textural cropped Trafalgar jacket, we've brought out the very best in our favourite autumnal fabric.

If you're looking for a unique coat that will turn heads, we have a number of options that will do the trick, not least our Dark Green Sofia Silk Velvet Long Swing Coat that features a stunning pale pink poppy motif set atop a deep forest green velvet pile. This slim-line coat features a grown-on collar creating a sleek neckline and flattering silhouette. Contrast silk piping and matching silk velvet buttons makes this coat a truly stand-out piece for this season.

For a more moody and sensual evening look, our Black Delamare Silk Velvet Carnaby coat provides a seductive canvas with a svelte silhouette and subtle orange accents woven into an ethnic embroidery design. A more formal style would be our Black and Navy Lutterworth Silk Velvet Victoria coat which features a stunning textural geometric design. Whatever your choice, silk velvet gives you that wonderful combination of sophistication and wearability season after season.
