Whether you're getting married this season, or are simply looking to polish up your tailoring options, the waistcoat provides endless styling opportunities. While the Spring/Summer season is typically the time to opt for pastel tones and lightweight linen fabrics, the autumn season on the other hand offers a host of deep rich tones to incorporate into your sartorial wardrobe. But what of that transitional period in-between? Well, then you have the best of both worlds!
Autumnal tones such as burgundy, burnt orange, and the gamut of greens, navy and brown, all provide a very rich palette with which you can contrast with brighter tones such as yellow, orange, red and cream in your ties and accessories. Where summer directs us to cotton, silk and linen, the cooler autumnal months bring into play wool gabardine and velvet options too, both of which add a tremendous textural and tactile element to your sartorial look. But that doesn't mean linen is out of the equation. A warm start to autumn is still a great time to incorporate muted tones such as grey, as well as blue, green, and yellow linen tones.

Speaking of green tones, they are an excellent jumping-in point as the seasons change; being somewhat muted and safe, they work very well with all manner of charcoal and navy suiting, be it a lounge suit or a morning suit. Green is an extremely versatile colour when it comes to your accessories, too, and you'd be hard pushed to find a tie or pocket square that doesn't jive with green hues.

The spectrum of orange, red and burgundy hues are also a brilliant option for seasonal waistcoats, offering the full spectrum of expression from dark and moody to bright and bold. Similar to the greens, they pair well with all but the lightest of charcoal tones, and are great ways to complement black and navy.

Yellow is often associated with the summer, but in fact we only have to look outside in the autumn to see that it's also a dominant colour in the leaves of the trees. All the gradients of yellow work well with black and charcoal but especially well with navy and blue, providing a bright and uplifting contrast.

If you prefer more decorative waistcoat styles, then autumn is also perfect for darker floral patterns which are eye-catching without ever being garish or overly flamboyant. Moreover, given that they contain multiple colours, you therefore have a larger selection of tones to complement with your tie and pocket square choices.

Another fantastic option to incorporate an array of autumnal colours is through tartan. Nothing says autumn more than a Glen check, especially when woven in the traditional earthy tones with blue and orange accents running through them. At Favourbrook this season we have a number of plaid styles that perfectly exemplify this heritage Scottish pattern, and you need not be from the Highlands in order to wear them!
