Our Favourite July Events and What to Wear to Them

Our Favourite July Events and What to Wear to Them

England is teeming with wonderful events to attend this summer, all of which gives us a number of opportunities to dress for the occasion. July events are naturally quite casual affairs for the most part, but there are a couple of gigs that require a touch of formalwear so don't hang up your black tie or ball gowns just yet! Let's get into it...

Wimbledon

As we head into the second week of the world's most prestigious tennis tournament, the ante is upped both on and off court. The Princess of Wales has, so far, shown us all up with an immaculate display of tailoring, but we're looking at a hot second half of July so comfort is most definitely a big consideration.

For Him

Start with a linen blazer for its breathable and moisture wicking properties, but also because it's just a beautiful fabric and can be styled in quite an informal way. A crisp white dress shirt is on the smart end of the spectrum but a knitted polo shirt would also be a great addition. Add a pair of well-fitted chinos or linen trousers in a light or neutral shade such as beige or stone. Dress shoes are a touch formal so complete the look with some soft suede loafers instead.

For Her

Choose a knee-length or midi dress in a sophisticated floral print or a solid pastel hue, so that it can be easily paired with a tailored blazer, or a slouchy cardigan if the weather isn't up to much. Give the heels a swerve and take the sensible approach with some low-heeled sandals or ballet flats. Complete the outfit with a statement sun hat to add an extra touch of elegance to your look.

The Henley Festival

The Henley Festival is this weekend, so if you are attending, listen up! This captivating and vibrant event offers a unique fusion of music, art, comedy, and culture. And the best thing? It's a black tie dress code! Set against the picturesque backdrop of Henley-on-Thames, this festival provides a truly immersive experience, from the breathtaking performances by renowned artists to the impressive showcase of visual arts and the delightful culinary offerings.

For Him

The black tie dress code is one thing, but in the summer one can get quite creative with it. Black dress trousers are non-negotiable, but you have a number of different options when it comes to the dinner jacket. Go traditional black or midnight, or opt for a more embellished style. Otherwise, an ivory or cream linen style is another great direction to take your formal look.

For Her

Glitz and glamour because why not?! We would recommend a stunning silk satin dress such as our burgundy poppy dress to create a svelte and elegant look, combined with a silk kimono coat - a combination that is sure to be a head-turner! Take a pashmina as a warm evening wrap just in case the temperature drops or the vodka fails to do its duty.

The Buxton International Festival

With its diverse program of opera, music, and literature, the Buxton Festival showcases top-tier performances and thought-provoking discussions for the best part of July. The historic setting of Buxton adds to the charm, creating an immersive atmosphere. Whether you're an opera aficionado or simply seeking a cultural retreat, the Buxton Festival delivers an exceptional blend of talent, artistry, and ambiance.

For Him

Given the huge diversity of events, you'll want to take a pretty versatile wardrobe with you. Opera events are relatively casual affairs compared to nights at La Scala or the Royal Opera House, so relaxed summer tailoring will more than suffice. A linen suit is a great option since you can wear it with a simple white tee or polo during the day, then simply add a collar in the evening by way of a crisp dress. This ensemble will also be perfect for the many jazz and literary events during the month - just swap out the suit trousers for some chinos to give you more options.

Similarly, the diversity of the events on offer calls for a deft rotation of dresses that can be styled up or down depending on the type of function. There Serena circle dress is a prime example of a stunning silhouette that can go from day to night without much fuss.
