Red or Dead: Gothic-Inspired Coats

Red or Dead: Gothic-Inspired Coats

While we like to advocate dressing up here at Favourbrook, when Halloween swings round we're somewhat perturbed by the consensus desire to dress up like bygone film characters. Fun as it might be if one is a teenager, there is nothing sophisticated in turning up to a dinner party in the remnants of a nurse's outfit. One might not even be let in! The best way to tap into a little gothic romance is through red velvet - seductive, passionate, and just a little bit dangerous, this combination of texture and tone delivers every time.

Alluring and effortlessly elegant, our silk velvet Carnaby coat is a striking style that features contrast piping detail and interesting button details fashioned at the front. The prune tone is perfect for eveningwear looks, embellished with stunning embroidery, executed with a chic gothic attitude. It works perfectly with our tonal Serena dress, too.

For something altogether shorter, our burgundy red Camden jacket is a beautiful piece of feminine tailoring, based on the classic Nehru collar shape. Made in London using Favourbrook signature silk velvet, this jacket features a stand collar, fabric-covered buttons with working pockets and cuffs. Perfect for both daywear and eveningwear, it has just the right balance of gothic chic and contemporary class.

We have also crafted two different red Westminster coats this season, both of which give a sense of passion and confidence. The red/green Polyantha silk velvet version boasts a truly mesmeric shimmer quality and features a grown-on collar, creating a sleek neckline, and a flattering silhouette. Contrasting silk facings and buttons edged with matching piping detail add to the allure, while the delicate green embroidery delivers a confident femininity.

Both are the pinnacle of eveningwear elegance.

If you want to dial down the embroidery, then plain red velvet can be just as alluring, offering a deep rich pile for a more minimalist finish. Our Soho Coat utilises this perfectly - crafted in elegant burgundy, the coat is based on the classic Nehru shape and is handmade in London. Svelte, figure-flattering, and
